Hi, I'm James Sterling. Welcome to Welt & Patina.

Why I Started This Blog

I believe footwear should be built to last thirty years, not thirty weeks. I spend my weekends stitching Goodyear welts, restoring oil-tanned work boots, and documenting the deep patina of Horween leathers.

Too much content online feels mass-produced, filled with buzzwords and unverified claims. I built this space to be the exact opposite: an honest, field-tested notebook where every technique has been tried in my own space.
